Summary: Blackout Camera has no app account system. Starting with 1.6.0 (build 197), optional app analytics uses TelemetryDeck when you choose to share it, as described in section 8. Camera and microphone media are processed on your device; the app does not upload your captures to MW Supply Limited. You choose saving, export and sharing. Apple Photos, iCloud Photos and device backups operate according to your Apple settings. The free tier uses advertising services, described in section 6. Pro and existing Basic subscriptions remove ads. From 1.5.7, the app does not request App Tracking Transparency permission or read the advertising identifier, and it disables ad personalisation before starting its advertising services. From 1.5.8, the app no longer maintains or synchronizes token balances. The sections below explain current behavior and older versions still in use.
There is no account system, login or user profile. Starting with 1.6.0 (build 197), the app can send the usage and subscription interaction events described in section 8 to TelemetryDeck if you choose to share analytics. Earlier public releases covered by this policy do not include this integration. The app stores your captures, optional location metadata and preferences on your device. Advertising providers may process the data described in section 6. Apple processes purchases and, according to your settings, Photos synchronization, device backups and legacy token synchronization. You control any export or sharing to another app or service.
The app uses your camera for preview, photos and video, and your microphone for video sound. Camera and microphone feeds are processed on your device for the capture you choose. Blackout Camera does not upload these feeds or your captured media to MW Supply Limited. Saving, backups, export and sharing are described below.
Apple Watch camera functions require Blackout Pro and an explicit iPhone opt-in. The Watch setting “Show last preview when dimmed” is off by default. From 1.6.0 (build 204), if you enable it and Blackout remains visible in Always On, one previously authorized fresh preview image and its “Last preview — paused” caption can remain visible even when other app content is redacted for dimming. People nearby may see this frozen image. It is not live, is not refreshed while paused and is retained only in the Watch app’s memory; the app does not save the cached still as a media file. The app clears it when you turn the option off, leave the camera page, background the Watch app, or it observes lost access or a changed camera session, format or zoom. The frozen image may remain while the Watch is dimmed and its live transport is paused; if the phone is unreachable when the Watch is active or waking, the app clears the image. The still is not proof of the current phone connection or recording state and does not authorize camera commands. Live preview and commands remain paused until you wake the Watch and the normal connection and access checks pass. Earlier 1.6.0 builds may hide or clear the paused image during Always On privacy redaction. watchOS controls sleep and whether Blackout remains visible; this option does not keep the Watch awake.
Choose your destinations in Settings → Saving & Privacy → Save to: Apple Photos, the In-App Library, the Private Folder on Pro, or a combination. Captures are saved locally to the selected destinations. Apple services may synchronize or back up those files according to your settings, and exports or shares go to the destinations you choose. The app does not operate a media-upload service.
From 1.6.0 (build 203), if Apple Photos is the only selected destination and a photo save fails, the app attempts one additional save to the ordinary In-App Library to protect the photo. The original Photos warning remains; this attempt is not guaranteed to succeed and does not mean the photo reached Apple Photos. This automatic fallback does not apply when an In-App Library or Private Folder destination is selected. Video save failures retain a local copy when one already exists. Available-storage readings describe capacity available for important use, not reserved space or a guarantee that Apple Photos will accept a save.
Apple Photos saving uses iOS “Add Only” authorization. This allows adding new captures and does not grant access to your existing photos and videos. Files saved to Apple Photos are under your control. If iCloud Photos is enabled, Apple synchronizes them according to your settings and Apple’s privacy policy.
The In-App Library manages the app’s own copies in its local storage. Deleting an item here does not delete another copy in Apple Photos or the Private Folder. From version 1.5.8, the In-App Library and Private Folder are eligible for device backup, including files retained from older app versions. A completed backup depends on your Apple settings, available storage and backup status; eligibility does not guarantee that a backup exists. Deleting the app removes these local folders. Export important files before deleting it, and check backups separately.
The Private Folder, introduced in 1.5.5, uses iOS file data protection and Face ID, Touch ID or your device passcode through Apple’s LocalAuthentication framework. iOS performs authentication; the app receives its result, not your biometric data or passcode. Without a device passcode, the folder cannot be locked; the app warns you and allows access to existing media. It locks when you close the folder or the app enters the background. Saving only to the Private Folder does not add that capture to Apple Photos or the unlocked Library. Other selected destinations, earlier copies, exports and backups remain separate. Deleting a private item removes its local private copy. If Pro ends, existing files remain accessible. The app stops new private saves and retains your other chosen destinations; if the Private Folder was the only destination, future captures fall back to the In-App Library.
If you enable “Save location in photos & videos” and allow location access, the app embeds GPS coordinates in your captures when a location fix is available. The app does not send this location to MW Supply Limited. Location metadata may travel with a file when you save, export or share it. Turn capture geotagging off in the app’s Settings or revoke access in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services. Advertising providers may separately derive approximate location from an IP address as described in section 6.
Preferences such as auto-blackout, red night-vision mode, grid and video quality are stored on your device and may be included in an Apple device backup. Version 1.5.8 and later no longer maintain, spend, display or synchronize a token balance. Older versions may still synchronize a legacy balance across your Apple devices through your private iCloud storage using CloudKit. In versions up to 1.5.4, tokens could be earned or purchased; versions 1.5.5–1.5.7 stopped earning and sales but retained legacy spending and synchronization. That older synchronization uses your Apple Account and is governed by Apple’s privacy policy. MW Supply Limited does not operate a token-sync server or receive that private balance. You can manage the app’s iCloud access in iOS Settings.
Advertising depends on the installed version. This policy covers older versions still in use as well as the current app. Check your version under Settings → Version. Pro and existing Basic subscriptions remove ads. The app does not start advertising while paid access is active; an advertising service started earlier in a free session may already have processed ad-related data.
In these versions the free tier shows advertising provided by Google AdMob: optional rewarded videos you can choose to watch to earn tokens, and a small banner on the settings and token screens. Ads never appear in the camera view. If you subscribe to Blackout Pro, the app shows no ads and the AdMob SDK is not started.
Google AdMob was removed in 1.5.2, which served no ads. From 1.5.3, the free tier uses Unity LevelPlay and its integrated advertising partners. Versions 1.5.3–1.5.4 included banners in Settings and Tokens, optional rewarded videos, and occasional full-screen ads. 1.5.5 removed rewarded videos. Versions 1.5.5–1.5.7 retained Settings banners, Tokens banners while a balance remained, and occasional full-screen ads. In 1.5.8, the Tokens screen is removed; the free tier retains a Settings banner and occasional full-screen ads while idle, including after an ordinary launch or after saving captures.
Ads do not interrupt active capture or appear while the preview is blacked out. The banner is confined to Settings in the current app. Record-intent launches, such as from a widget or recording shortcut, skip the opening full-screen ad.
Apple processes subscriptions through your Apple Account; the app does not receive your payment-card details. StoreKit verifies purchase and subscription status on your device. Manage or cancel subscriptions in your Apple Account settings, or use Restore Purchases in the app for an existing subscription. Legacy consumable token packs are no longer sold. Version 1.5.8 retains handling for unfinished legacy transactions; this does not create a subscription or restore token spending. For an earlier purchase, request a refund through Apple. Eligibility is determined by Apple and applicable consumer law.
If you enable analytics in version 1.6.0 (build 197) or later, plan choices, purchase and restore outcomes, observed subscription access, auto-renew preferences and billing-recovery actions may be sent to TelemetryDeck as described below. These are incomplete app observations, not a billing or refund record; Apple remains responsible for billing and refunds. Analytics does not include your Apple Account, payment-card information, receipt or transaction identifiers.
Starting with 1.6.0 (build 197), you can choose to share app analytics through TelemetryDeck to help MW Supply Limited understand how people use Blackout Camera, improve features, and identify problems with subscription offers and payment recovery. Sharing is off until you choose it. You can turn it off again in the app’s Settings. This choice does not change your Free, Basic or Pro features. Analytics may apply to any subscription tier; paid subscriptions continue to remove advertising.
When sharing begins or the app returns from the background, analytics may include the current permission, App Store product-availability and subscription-status categories, with unavailable answers kept distinct. The app does not upload an earlier activity history when you opt in.
Blackout Camera is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children or offered as a Kids Category app. It does not ask users to create a profile or provide an age. Current advertising configuration identifies the app as not child-directed; that setting does not itself guarantee the suitability of every ad for every age. Contact us about an unsuitable ad using the address below.
If data practices change, we will update this page and its “Last updated” date. App Store privacy disclosures should reflect the app’s actual practices, including third-party advertising services. This page keeps relevant version boundaries so people using an older installed version can understand its behavior.
