Money Splitter ("the app") is published by MW Supply Limited ("we", "us"). This policy explains what information the app handles and why. We aim to keep this simple: we do not run our own servers that collect your personal data, and we do not sell your data.
When you use the app you create trip data: trip names, the names you enter for people in a trip, expense descriptions, amounts, dates, who paid, how a cost is split, and payments you record. This data is stored in Apple iCloud (CloudKit) so it can sync between your devices and with the other members of a trip.
Trip data is associated with a trip's invite code. Anyone who has a trip's invite code can view and edit that trip's data. Only share a trip code with people you want to have access. We do not control who you share a code with.
The list of trips you have joined and your display name are stored in your own private iCloud account (iCloud key-value storage) so they appear on your other devices. We do not receive or store this on our own servers.
Money Splitter does not require you to create an account, and we do not collect your email address or a password. To recognise "you" across your own devices and within a trip, the app uses the anonymous iCloud user identifier provided by Apple. We never see your Apple ID, name, or email through this.
Money Splitter is free and supported by ads provided through Google AdMob. To serve and measure ads, Google may process information such as your device's advertising identifier, general location (e.g. country, derived from IP address), device information, and ad interactions. The app also uses Apple's SKAdNetwork for privacy-preserving ad attribution.
On first launch you will be asked, through Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt, whether to allow tracking. If you decline, ads are shown on a non-personalised basis. You can change this anytime in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
Google's handling of this data is governed by Google's policies: How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services and the Google Privacy Policy.
Money Splitter offers an optional auto-renewing subscription, Money Splitter Premium (monthly or yearly), which removes ads and unlocks additional features. All purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store. We never see or store your payment-card details. To unlock Premium and restore purchases, the app checks your subscription status with Apple via StoreKit; Apple provides only the anonymized transaction and entitlement information needed to enable your benefits. You can view, change, or cancel your subscription anytime in your Apple Account settings, and Apple's handling of payment data is governed by the Apple Privacy Policy.
When you record an expense in a currency other than your trip's currency, the app can fetch the latest exchange rate to convert it. To do this it requests current rates from a third-party provider, open.er-api.com. Only the currency codes involved (for example "USD") are sent in the request — no personal information, amounts, names, or trip data are ever sent. Fetched rates are cached on your device so conversions work offline, and you can always enter your own exchange rate by hand instead.
Trip data remains in iCloud until it is deleted. You can delete individual expenses, payments, or remove data you no longer need within the app. Leaving a trip removes it from your device but does not delete it for the other members. Because a trip is shared, fully removing a trip's data may require the members to delete its expenses. You can also manage app data stored in your private iCloud via your device's iCloud settings.
Money Splitter is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected on this page with a new "Last updated" date.
