Windrose Privacy Policy

Last updated: 27 August 2026

In short: Windrose does not collect, store, or sell your personal information itself. There are no accounts, and your location is used only to fetch weather for you. Windrose uses a privacy-first analytics service (TelemetryDeck) to count anonymous, aggregated usage, and on the free plan a third-party advertising provider (Unity Ads) shows ads and may collect device and ad-interaction data as described in the Advertising section below. The optional Windrose Pro subscription removes all ads.

Information we do not collect

Windrose has no user accounts and no servers that store your data. We do not collect your name, email, contacts or browsing history. Two third parties do receive data: a privacy-first analytics service (see “Analytics” below) and, on the free plan only, an advertising provider (see “Advertising” below), which collects data under Unity’s control — not ours — to deliver ads.

Location

If you grant location access, Windrose uses your device's location to show the weather, radar and conditions where you are. To retrieve a forecast for a point, your approximate coordinates (or the coordinates of a place you search for) are sent to our weather data providers (listed below) as part of an ordinary weather request. These coordinates are not stored by us, are not linked to your identity, and are never used for advertising or tracking. You can use the app without granting location access by searching for places by name. You can change or revoke location permission anytime in iOS Settings.

Data stored on your device

Your saved places, app settings, and the most recent forecast (cached so the app works briefly offline) are stored only on your device. Removing the app deletes this data.

Weather data providers

Windrose retrieves weather information from the third-party services below — this is the complete list. Requests contain only the location and parameters needed to return weather data; they do not contain personal information about you, and there is no account to tie them to. Each provider may log technical request metadata (such as IP address) under its own privacy policy. Map and radar tiles are requested by tile coordinate, which describes a square of the map you are looking at rather than your device’s position:

Subscriptions

Windrose Pro subscriptions are processed by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive or store your payment information. Apple handles billing, renewals and receipts in accordance with Apple's Privacy Policy.

Analytics

Windrose uses TelemetryDeck to understand how the app is used in aggregate — for example how many people opened the radar, or how often a forecast failed to load. TelemetryDeck is designed to be privacy-first: it does not use the advertising identifier, does not build a profile of you, and the signals it receives are not linked to your identity. Windrose never sends it your name, email, saved places, or coordinates. Its handling of data is governed by the TelemetryDeck Privacy Policy.

Advertising (free plan) and App Tracking Transparency

On the free plan, Windrose shows ads using the Unity Ads SDK (Unity Technologies): a banner within the weather dashboard and an optional short video ad you can choose to watch to unlock extra features for a day. To select, deliver, measure and cap the frequency of these ads and to prevent fraud, the Unity SDK may collect device and usage information — including a device advertising identifier (IDFA, only with your consent), an IP address (and the coarse region derived from it), and information about your interaction with the ads.

The first time the free version prepares to show an ad, iOS shows Apple’s App Tracking Transparency prompt:

This advertising data is collected and processed by Unity Technologies as an independent controller, not by MW Supply Limited. We never receive it. Unity’s handling of this data is governed by the Unity Game Player and App User Privacy Policy. You can change your tracking choice at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.

Windrose Pro removes all ads. While you are a Pro subscriber the app does not display ads, does not start the advertising SDK, and never shows the App Tracking Transparency prompt. Your location is never passed to the advertising layer by us; any coarse, IP-derived region used in ad serving is handled by Unity as described above.

Children

Windrose is not directed at children. The app itself does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children. Ads on the free plan are served by Unity; when tracking permission has not been granted, the app explicitly requests non-personalized ads only.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will update this page and revise the date above. Material changes will be reflected in a future app update.
