Privacy Policy

Xiangqi for iPhone & iPad Updated 18 August 2026

The short version

We run no servers and we have no account system. Your games, ratings and lesson progress are stored on your device, and — if you subscribe to Pro — in your own private iCloud, which only you can read. We never receive them. The one thing that leaves your device is advertising traffic in the free version, and only after iOS has asked your permission.

What stays on your device

Games you have played, including saved positions and move lists.
Your settings — board theme, piece characters, notation, rule set, coach preferences.
Your progress — games played, win/loss record per level, puzzle rating, day streak, and which lessons and puzzles you have completed.

This data is written to the app's own storage. Deleting the app deletes it.

iCloud

With Xiangqi Pro, your progress and ratings sync through Apple's iCloud key-value store using your iCloud account. The data lives in your personal iCloud, is governed by Apple's privacy policy, and is visible only to you. MW Supply Limited has no access to it and operates no database of its own. Turning off iCloud for Xiangqi in iOS Settings stops the sync; your data stays on the device.

Advertising (free version only)

The free version shows ads to pay for the app. Ads are served through Unity LevelPlay (ironSource), a Unity Technologies mediation service, which may show creatives from Unity Ads.

To serve an ad, these services receive limited technical information from your device: a device and OS identifier, general device characteristics, coarse location derived from your IP address, and whether you saw or interacted with an ad. If you allow tracking, they may also receive Apple's Advertising Identifier (IDFA) in order to show more relevant ads and to measure them.

iOS asks first. We show Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt before any tracking-based advertising identifier is used — and we ask it after a completed game in a later session, not on the very first launch, so you have some idea what you are agreeing to.
Declining costs you nothing. Every feature of the free app works identically; you simply see less relevant ads.
Ads never appear during play. No ad is shown on the board during a game, during a lesson, or during a puzzle — and never on app open.
Pro removes every ad, and when you are entitled the advertising SDK is not started at all.

Unity's own privacy policy is at unity.com/legal/game-player-and-app-user-privacy-policy. You can limit ad tracking system-wide in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.

Purchases

Subscriptions and one-time purchases are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never see your payment details. We receive only the entitlement — whether this Apple Account currently owns Pro — through Apple's StoreKit, which the app reads on your device.

What we do not do

No analytics of our own — we collect nothing about how you use the app, and we run no backend that could receive it. The advertising SDK does include ironSource Ad Quality, which reports ad-delivery diagnostics (a device identifier plus performance and diagnostic data, not linked to your identity) so that Unity can detect ad fraud. It runs in the free version only, and not at all once you have Pro.
No accounts, no email collection, no sign-in.
No selling or sharing of personal information.
No advertising to children — the app is rated 4+ and requests no tracking consent from users Apple identifies as children.
No AdMob, and no Google advertising SDK.

Your rights

Because we hold no personal data about you, there is nothing for us to export or erase on request. To remove everything the app has stored: delete the app, and (if you used Pro's iCloud sync) turn Xiangqi off under iOS Settings → your name → iCloud.

If you are in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, the lawful basis for the limited advertising data described above is your consent, which you may withdraw at any time in iOS Settings. If you are in California, we do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined by the CCPA/CPRA.

Children

Xiangqi is suitable for all ages and collects no personal information from anyone, including children under 13. We do not knowingly request tracking permission from accounts Apple identifies as belonging to a child.

Changes

If this policy changes materially we will update the date at the top of this page and note it in the app's release notes.
