Qedra

A university mathematics solver that shows its working — and tells you what it assumed. Exact arithmetic, no rounding, and it runs entirely on your device. iPhone and iPad.

About

Qedra solves calculus, algebra and linear algebra problems and writes out the derivation the way a lecturer would: one named rule at a time, with a short explanation of why that step is allowed. It is built on a computer algebra system written from scratch for this app, which means two things you will notice immediately.

Explore Qedra 1.2 study tools

Getting started

  1. Type a problem into the box — for example d/dx x^x, integral of t^5/(t^6-6)^3 dt, or det([[1,2],[3,4]]).
  2. Tap Solve. The answer appears first, with a badge saying whether Qedra could verify it.
  3. Read down for the worked solution. Tap any step to expand the reasoning behind it.

If your input could mean more than one thing, Qedra says so above the answer and offers the other readings — it does not guess silently.

What it can solve

Why the answers say “assuming”

Some steps are only valid under a condition. Simplifying √(x²) to x is wrong when x is negative; dividing by a symbol is wrong when that symbol is zero. Most solvers do these silently. Qedra records the assumption and shows it with the answer, so you can check whether it holds for your problem. If you are working over the complex numbers, turn that on in Settings and Qedra will stop making the assumptions that only hold over the reals.

Why it sometimes refuses

Qedra will tell you it could not finish, and what it tried. This is deliberate. A search that gives up and prints a plausible-looking answer is worse than useless for checking your own work, so when the engine cannot prove a result it says so rather than guessing. The same applies to verification: an answer marked “could not verify” is not necessarily wrong, and Qedra says which of the two it means.

Notation settings

Some notation genuinely changes the answer, so Qedra asks rather than assuming. log(100) is 2 in base 10 and about 4.605 as a natural logarithm. Set your convention under Settings → Notation; it applies to what you solve next, and work already in your history keeps the convention it was solved under.

Qedra Pro

The free tier gives you unlimited answers, three full worked solutions a day, and the most recent 100 unpinned solved problems in history. Pinned work stays until you delete it. Version 1.2 also includes guided calculus and matrix input, one course notebook and one practice example per topic. Pro adds more notebooks and practice variations, plus formatted PDF export. Qedra Pro removes the daily worked-solution limit, the unpinned-history limit and the advertising: the free tier carries a single banner on the Solve screen, and nothing you type is ever part of an advert request.

US prices are $2.99 monthly, $14.99 yearly with a 3-day free trial for eligible customers, or $49.99 once as a Lifetime purchase. Regional prices are shown in the app before purchase. The monthly plan has no trial. You can see your current access and any subscription’s renewal or expiry details, and manage or cancel the subscription under Settings → Membership.

FAQ

Do my problems get uploaded anywhere?

No. The solver is built into the app and runs on your device, and there is no Qedra server to send anything to. Qedra stores history locally and does not sync it between devices. Device backups may include it, and Share or Copy sends an answer to a destination you choose. Network features include a purchase, handled entirely by Apple, and — on the free tier only — advertising requests and related measurement and diagnostic data, handled by Unity LevelPlay and Ad Quality. Qedra Pro removes the advert.

Is it free?

Answers are free and unlimited, permanently. Three full worked solutions a day are free as well. Pro removes that daily limit.

Why does it show a different form of the answer than my textbook?

There is usually more than one correct way to write the same expression. Qedra prefers the form a lecturer would write — coefficients first, then algebra, then named functions — but an answer that looks different is often the same expression rearranged. If you think it is genuinely wrong, please send it to us; a wrong answer is a bug we want.

Can it take a photo of my homework?

Not yet. Qedra takes typed input today. Use the guided calculus fields or matrix grid for structured input.

Does it do statistics or differential equations?

Statistics, yes: descriptive statistics, the normal, binomial, Poisson, geometric, hypergeometric, Student’s t, χ², F, exponential and uniform distributions, and the combinatorics behind them. Differential equations are not in this version.

Does it work on iPad?

Yes, on iPhone and iPad, with the layout adapting to the size of the screen.

I restored my purchase and it did not appear.

Purchases are tied to your Apple Account. Make sure the device is signed in with the same Apple Account you bought with, then use Settings → Membership → Restore Purchases. If it still does not appear, email us.

I found a wrong answer, a bug, or want a feature.

Please tell us, and include the exact problem you typed. A wrong mathematical result is the most serious kind of bug this app can have and it will be treated that way.
